The Mars Effect: Bruno at Halftime

Bruno-Super-Bowl-bw

Super Chance

Although some may have thought this Super Bowl opportunity came a little early in Bruno Mars’ career, I am not one of them.  Admittedly, I am biased.  I worked at Atlantic when he was signed, and I have seen him countless times since that first New York show at the Bowery four years ago.

Big Moments

What struck me then, other than the unusual number of non-Caucasian hipsters who lined up outside for hours, was his supreme confidence on stage.  Bruno Mars is meant for big live moments.  His charisma, musicianship, ability to make any venue intimate, and his love of performing live were so palatable, even from day one.

…Including yesterday’s performance in front of an estimated 100 million plus viewers and 82.5K live attendees.  Even though the RHCP moment felt disjointed, it was big, and it was live – no tape.

Some Final Thoughts…

I would like to have seen the Bruno Mars mash-up. Once, at a Grammy After-Party, he played a 45-minute set – one cover into another.  I remember my brain exploding when he performed Niggas In Paris transitioning right into Roxanne.

I would have fought for his right, our right, to a Bruno Mars 12-minute party mix, with some twists.
Yes – That be cray.
